This is part of an email from Zack, my next door cubical mate to our office.

Emerson was admitted to the pediatric ICU last night with “centralized apnea,”. She is having events where she stops breathing and turns blue. We are going to be here at least through tomorrow while they continue to run tests to try and figure out why.

We got some pretty scary news. Essentially there is a possibility Emerson could need brain surgery to help her body make the neural connections and tell her lungs when to breathe. Or, a step beyond that, she needs a trach / mechanical ventilation or possibly even a diaphragm pacemaker to keep her breathing. An MRI (likely tomorrow) and evaluation from an ear/nose/throat doctor will help us determine concrete next steps.

There is still a chance she grows out of this and leads an otherwise healthy and normal life. That is the outcome we are believing in. Our God is greater. In Jesus Christ’s name, Emerson will be healed and healthy in short order.
